Aromatherapy is the art and science of using essential oils and other aromatic compounds to promote psychological and physiological healing. The use of aromatic plants for healing is not new, in fact it has been around for thousands of years. Evidence of this dates back thousands of years to ancient Egypt, China and India. In Greek and Roman history and in the middle ages we find aromatic practices in numerous European countries.
In the 1920's a French chemist, René-Maurice Gattefossé, coined the term aromatherapy and published the book of aromatherapy called: "Aromathérapie: Les Huiles Essentielles Hormones Végétales".
Today we find aromatherapy and the use of essential oils in a variety of fields, from alternative health, to spa treatments, and in the food and perfume industries.
